Chu is currently on faculty at CalArts teaching design for theater.

Personal life

Chu married Rebecca Wisocky in Boston on October 10, 2015.

Awards and nominations

In 2009, Chu was nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award for his lighting of The Good Negro. In 2018, he was nominated by the Outer Critics Circle Awards for his lighting in Mlima's Tale.
