Kusanagi (animation studio)

Kusanagi Inc. is a Japanese animation studio sub-contractor that specializes in background art. It is a subsidiary of CyberAgent's video game development studio Cygames.

Establishment

Kusanagi Inc. was founded by Yōji Nakaza and former Eiken art staff who departed from Eiken in 1990. The studio is based in Nerima, Tokyo.
Kusanagi would then go on to participate in television animation productions as a sub-contracting background art studio for other studios. Sony Computer Entertainment would also hire the company for background art on their video games which led to their involvement in the video game industry as well.
On June 2, 2016, Kusanagi announced that it had sold all shares to Cygames.
