Kul Man Ghising


Kulman Ghising is the present Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority of Nepal. He is best known for his approaches in managing Electrical Demand and Supply, thus eliminating Load shedding issues all over Nepal.

Background

Ghising has been associated with NEA for over two decades. Prior to being appointed as the managing director, he was serving as the project chief of Rahughat Hydroelectricity Project. Ghising had also served as the managing director of Chilime Hydropower Company Ltd under NEA. He was also the Division Chief of Rural Electrification Distribution System Reinforcement Project at NEA. Ghising has more than 22 years of experience in power generation, transmission, and distribution, and trading business, which includes contract management and dispute settlement in hydropower companies.

Entrance into Nepal Electricity Authority and Subsequent Activities

In 2016, The Government of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was replaced by Puspakamal Dahal Prachanda. During the tenure of KP Oli and many other Prime Ministers load-shedding was a major problem to the general public.
At the same time the immediate PM Prachanda nominated Janardan Sharma 'Prabhakar' as Minister of Energy.Prabhakar who worked as immediate Chairman of Account Committee of the Legislative Assembly previously noticed "The governing people of NEA is providing load-shedding schedule to people while providing low tariff electricity to industrialists",in an interview he said.He recommended Mr. Ghising as MD of Nepal electricity authority as he was influenced by his will towards his work that he showed in Chilime Hydroelectric Project and Subsequently approved by PM Prachanda.
Kul Man Ghising launched a project which comprises undergrounding the electrical wires and removing electrical poles from Kathmandu Valley within 36 months. Nepal Electricity Authority along with the financial support from Asian Development Bank estimated the cost of this project to be approx. 16 Arba. Prime Minister of Nepal KP Oli inaugurated this in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on 17 February 2020. The contract has been given to KI Company Pvt. Ltd. India. This initial step includes the budget of 7 Billion NPR. This project includes the undergrounding of 450 km and 800 km of 11 thousand voltage line supply and 400 voltage line supply respectively. Also 450 km of optical fibres will be undergrounded till October 2021.
