Kentucky Department of Criminal Investigation


The Kentucky Department of Criminal Investigation is an investigative law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky that operates under the authority of the Office of the Attorney General. The department was founded in September 2004 by former Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo as the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation. The KBI was reorganized into the Department of Criminal Investigation by Stumbo's successor Jack Conway.

Branches

DCI is a specialized agency with three different investigative branches.
*Human Trafficking Unit
*Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit
*AHIDTA Drug Diversion Task Force
Criminal investigations in areas other than those listed above are not investigated by the DCI. They are investigated by either the Kentucky State Police or by local law enforcement.
