Kegalu Vidyalaya


Kegalu Vidyalaya is a primary and secondary national school for boys in Kegalle, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1942.

History

The school was officially opened on 30 February 1942 by Don Baron Jayatilaka, Gunapala Malalasekara, P. De S. Kularathne, E. W. Adhikaram, H. W. Amarasooriya and Naradha Thero.
Initially, the school was an English-speaking Buddhist co-educational school. Later on, government regulations prompted the language to change to Sinhalese. In addition, these regulations mandated that the school should exclude female students to become an all boy's school.
Kegalu Vidyalaya offers education in both Sinhalese and English.

Houses

The students are divided into four houses:
The house names are derived from national heroes of Sri Lanka. The houses compete annually in games and sports to win the annual inter-house competition.
