Katowal, Katawal, Katuwal, Katwal is a surname used in Nepal and Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
They belong to Ekthariya Chhetri subcaste that is widely accepted to be of patrilineal Rajput origin from present day India, which is in contrast to Bahuthariya Chhetri subcaste which is of patrilineal Khas origin.
