Kaptagat


Kaptagat is a village near 25 kilometres east of Eldoret along the B54 Road in the former Rift Valley Province, Kenya. It is located near the edge of the Great Rift Valley just to the southeast of the village of Chepkorio. Administratively, it is a location in Ainabkoi division of Uasin Gishu County. Its local authority is Wareng County Council and constituency is Ainabkoi Constituency. Although geographically, Kaptagat lies both in the Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet Countys. One of the nearest towns is Kimwarer, located 10 kilometers east of Kapatagat.
Historically, Kaptagat was the Home of colonial landowners and still retains the colonial feel. Elagerini Camp, Kaptagat Farmstay and Kaptagat Preparatory school still bear the historical mark of the colonial era.
Kaptagat has a small hospital.
Kaptagat Forest is strategically and centrally in Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties at the cradle of world class long distance runners including the famous Eliud Kipchoge and Geoffrey Kamwowor
Kaptagat also has a train station on the metre gauge railway line from Nakuru to Eldoret.

Athletics training camps

Kaptagat is home to the Great Rift Valley Sports Camp, a training camp for many Kenyan runners including Elijah Lagat, Eliud Kipchoge, Moses Tanui and Brimin Kipruto. Kaptagat is also home to Chepkero Athletics Club, a club that caters for student athletes. Global Sports Communication's athletics training camp is also located in Kaptagat.
