KAVU-TV

KAVU-TV, virtual channel 25, is an ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Victoria, Texas, United States. Owned by Morgan Murphy Media, it is sister to five low-power stations: NBC affiliate KMOL-LD, Univision affiliate KUNU-LD, Cozi TV affiliate KQZY-LD, CBS affiliate KXTS-LD, and Telemundo affiliate KVTX-LP. Morgan Murphy Media also operates Fox affiliate KVCT under a local marketing agreement with owner SagamoreHill Broadcasting. All of the stations share studios on North Navarro Street in Victoria and transmitter facilities on Farm to Market Road 236 west of the city.

History

KAVU was founded on December 7, 1981, but did not take to the air until July 21, 1982. At the time, it began as an NBC affiliate, but then joined ABC as a secondary affiliate from 1989 to 1994, after the previous affiliate, KVCT, dropped the ABC affiliation to become a religious station.
In 1994, KAVU became solely an ABC affiliate; this consequently left the Victoria market without an over-the-air NBC affiliate until KMOL-LD signed on during the 2004–05 season. Today, KAVU and KVCT operate as sister stations and also operate the market's NBC, CBS, Univision, and Telemundo affiliates via low-power stations and/or digital subchannels.
