Jorien Wuite


Jorien Wuite is a Sint Maarten politician and member of the United Democrats. She has been Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs since January 2018.

Early life

Wuite was born in the Netherlands and grew up there. Her mother is writer and educator Anna Merab Richardson. She studied Public Health Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, followed by a postgraduate course in management consultancy and change management. She later earned a master's degree in public management and management sciences from Open University. During her studies she did research on Sint Maarten.

Career

After her studies, Wuite worked in the Netherlands for five years for a consultancy firm. She responded to a vacancy for a Sector Director of Healthcare in Sint Maarten and was hired. Later she was secretary-general of the Ministries of Health, Social Development and Labor Affairs and of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs. On 15 January 2018 she was appointed Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs in the Marlin-Romeo cabinet.
