John Sigismund Vasa

John Sigismund Vasa - Polish prince, the son of John II Casimir and Marie Louise Gonzaga.

Biography

His parents, happy for the birth of an heir, had vowed that when the child was born, he would spend two years as the novice of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. However, unfortunately for them, the boy died under the age of two months. This plunged his parents into deep despair as they had similarly lost a daughter, Maria Anna Teresa, some months prior to John's birth. As befitting the son of a Polish king, he was buried in the Vasa Crypt, at Wawel Castle in the Tomb of the Kings.
According to the contemporary sources, though his name was Charles Louis, on his coffin his name was inscribed as Jan Zygmunt.
