John Massari is a cherished American film composer whose recent works include the world's first virtual reality feature-length film, "Jesus VR: The Story of Christ". The epic emotional score for this film will connect audiences with a historic first-ever, powerful virtual reality experience. This project holds deep, spiritual meaning for Massari.
Massari has a rare gift for creating memorable music across a wide range of genres. He also has a reputation for being exceptionally collaborative, which has made Massari the "go to" film composer for producers and directors. Massari combines his training as a classical composer, along with his strong passion for new contemporary music genres which he easily adapts to each assignment.
Creating music for iconic brands such as Disney, HBO, MGM and Sony Pictures, Massari's innovative gifts have proven greatly versatile. He has the ability to flawlessly cross genres in projects ranging from purely narrative documentaries and drama to quirky comedy and sci-fi/horror.
Film music's powerful influence drew him to explore creating original music at age 6 as he began training on piano, trumpet and contra bass. While performing in student orchestras and rock bands, Massari studied musical composition privately at Chapman University. At the University of California, Los Angeles earning the Frank Sinatra Music Award for composition, studying composition and orchestration with Henri Lazarof, and David Raksin as well as private studies with Dr. Albert Harris.
Massari was mentored by composers Jerry Fielding, David Rose, and Mark Snow while privately studying composition with Leonard Stein at the University of Southern California.
