John Gittings


John Gittings is a British journalist and author who is mainly known for his work on modern China and the Cold War. From 1983 to 2003, he worked at The Guardian as assistant foreign editor and chief foreign leader-writer. He has been a fellow of the Transnational Institute.

Biography

He was educated at Midhurst Grammar School, the School of Oriental & African Studies, and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, . He worked at the University of Westminster, before going to The Guardian, where he was employed for 20 years, as assistant foreign editor and chief foreign leader-writer.
He has also worked in the past at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the University of Chile, the Far Eastern Economic Review and the Polytechnic of Central London.
