Jimmy Weir (footballer, born 1864)

James Weir, known as Jimmy Weir was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Everton.
Jimmy Weir was born in Edinburgh in 1864. First club was local club Hibernian, signed in 1886 and then signed for Third Lanark in 1887. Later in September 1887 Weir signed for Everton and made his debut in a first—round FA Cup replay in October 1887. Weir appeared in his first League game nine months later against Aston Villa and remained a regular in the side during that initial League campaign. Jimmy Weir, playing as a wing—half, made his League debut on 22 September 1888 at Wellington Road, the then home of Aston Villa. Everton were defeated by the home team 2—1. Jimmy Weir appeared in 16 of the 22 League matches played by Everton during the 1888–89 season. As a wing—half he played in a midfield that achieved a big win once.
A well–proportioned defender, able to play in both wing–half positions, he was associated with the Blues for two year, joining Sunderland Albion in October 1889.
