Jim Gotts

James Atkinson Gotts was an English footballer who played in the Football League as a winger for Brentford, Colchester and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Career

Born in Seaton Delaval, Gotts began his career at Ashington prior to joining Brentford during the war years. He made two first-team appearances for Brentford, both of which came in the 1945–46 FA Cup. His debut came on 31 January 1946, a 5–0 victory over Bristol City, and his final game came on 9 February 1946 in a 3–1 away victory over Queens Park Rangers in the following round. While registered with Brentford, Gotts signed on loan to Southern League club Colchester United for a single Southern League Cup match on 13 April 1946, resulting in a 5–2 away victory over Guildford City.
The following season, Gotts joined Brighton & Hove Albion, where he would make his Football League debut. He made two league appearances for Brighton in total.
His career was effectively cut short and was forced to retire due to cartilage problems in both legs.
Gotts died on 18 December 1998.
