Jiangling County

Jiangling is a county in southern Hubei province, People's Republic of China. Administratively, it is under the jurisdiction of Jingzhou City.

History

During the Han dynasty and Three Kingdoms era, Jiangling was known as Nanjun due to it being the seat of Nanjun district.
Under the Tang dynasty, it served as the southern capital and was known as Nandu.
Later on, Jiangling was the capital of the small Jingnan kingdom that existed from 924 to 963 during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.
In 1994, Jiangling County was dissolved and converted to two districts of Jingzhou City. The current Jiangling County was established in 1998, when the Jiangling District, then covering 11 outlying towns and townships, was again reverted to county status.
