Jayati Bhatia


Jayati Bhatia is an Indian television actress. She is best known for her role as Nirmala "Mataji" Bharadwaj in Sasural Simar Ka that aired on Colors TV.

Career

Bhatia started her career as a protagonist with Balaji Telefilms soap opera, Itihaas. This was followed by Kanyadaan where she played the daughter of Kirron Kher's character. Later, Bhatia was part of several Balaji Telefilms drama series like Kutumb and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. She was also part of popular drama series Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin which starred Mona Singh as the protagonist.
Bhatia has also been part of several non-fiction shows. Her most notable works includes Kitchen Champion where she was crowned as winner. She was also part of dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa .
Her recent work includes in the daily soap opera, Sasural Simar Ka which was broadcast from 2011 to 2018 on Colors TV. The series is among the longest running shows on Indian Television.
In 2018, Bhatia played the role of antagonist Kamini Kapoor in Star Plus soap opera, Naamkarann.
Apart from television and films, she also does theater plays.

Personal life

Originally a Bengali, Bhatia was born in Orissa, India but moved to Delhi when she was a month old. As a child, she was trained in classical Odissi dancing but has admitted that she finds western dance forms difficult.
Bhatia met her husband, Kiran Bhatia, during her first play and was encouraged by him to be more active on the theatre circuit. In April 2017, on her way to the sets of Sasural Simar Ka, Bhatia's husband was involved in an argument after which he was beaten up. Bhatia has expressed that she was supported by her mother-in-law and owes much of her success to her.
Bhatia is a supporter of LGBT rights.
