Jason van Wyk


Jason van Wyk is a musician, composer and music producer from South Africa. He is best known for his electronic and experimental compositions and has been releasing records since the early 2000s.

Life and career

Jason was born in Cape Town. His music career started with the release of his first record in 2004. Producing mostly Trance music during this period, numerous singles were released though Black Hole Recordings with remix commissions extending to artists such as BT and Kirsty Hawkshaw, as well as the Armada Music label. These works were supported by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Above & Beyond and more, with inclusion on compilations such as In Search of Sunrise and A State of Trance.
In 2013 Jason's first solo album Days You Remember was released. This is noted as his first major departure in style from his previous work, taking on a range of influences from abstract electronic music to post-classical and ambient.
His second album Attachment was released in 2016 and its follow-up Opacity was released 15 September 2017. Both consisted of minimal compositions for piano, chamber strings and electronics.
Besides his releases, Jason's work has been commissioned for various film and media projects, including documentaries for the likes of The Criterion Collection, Taschen and LinkedIn, as well as sound design work for Roland and Virtual Sonics. In 2019 he scored the upcoming feature film Triggered, as well as the experimental art film How Long Does It Take?.
Jason's fourth solo album is set to be released in 2020 on the Californian based label n5MD.
