Jan Roth


Jan Roth was a Czech cinematographer. After serving an apprenticeship under the German-based Karl Anton and Karel Lamač, Roth was one of the most prolific cinematographers in 1930s Czech cinema. Following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 he was employed by the Prague-based German film studio Prag-Film. After the Second World War Roth continued to work in the now Communist Czech film industry until 1969. He was noted for his ability to create Chiaroscuro effects.
