Jan Kazimierz Wilczyński


Jan Kazimierz Wilczyński was a Polish medical doctor, collector and publisher. He was known for publishing the "Album de Wilna".

Biography

Jan Kazimierz Wilczyński was born in Jasonys near Utena. From 1824-1827 he studied at Vilnius Academy and then in Paris. He finished Vilnius medical-surgery academy. He had a medical practice in Warsaw and Vilnius.
He was known as an art and numismatic collector, and he was a member of St. Petersburg and Vilnius Archaeological Commissions. From 1846 in Paris he started printing Album de Wilna. The album consists of 364 lythographies, chromlythographies and carvings.
Wilczyński also published the Vilna Archeological Museum album, albums of Warsaw and Kiev and other books.

Death

He died in Vilnius and is buried at the Rasos Cemetery.
According to the information published in 1908 by his nephew, historian and archaeologist Algirdas Vilčinskas, Jan Kazimierz Wilczyński spoke exclusively Lithuanian at home.
