James Linnell


James Linnell is a writer, teacher, and director. He received his graduate training at University of California, Berkeley. He teaches in the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of New Mexico.
His work has been performed in New Mexico and abroad in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel. He helped establish the MFA degree in Dramatic Writing at UNM and the annual Words Afire Festival of new plays. He is currently Interim Dean of the College of Fine Arts at UNM.
His play Plunda, a bi-location play, was produced at UNM in two theatres simultaneously linked by video. His book from Southern Illinois Press on Dramatic writing, titled Walking on Fire: The Shaping Force of Emotion in Writing Drama is available from the SIU Press and Amazon.com.
The Tricklock Company will present a stage version of his book of poetry titled The Menu: A Diary of Days in the spring 2013.
