Infanta Maria Francisca, Duchess of Coimbra


Dona Maria Francisca, Duchess of Coimbra is the second child of Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza, Head of the House of Braganza. Maria Francisca is titled as Duchess of Coimbra.

Early life

Maria Francisca Isabel Micaela Gabriela Rafaela Paula was born on 3 March 1997, in Lisbon, as the second child of the Duke and the Duchess of Braganza. Her full name ends with Micaela Gabriela Rafaela, a naming tradition of the House of Braganza that honors the three archangels in the Catholic Church.
Her godparents were her paternal uncle Infante Henrique, Duke of Coimbra, and her second cousin Princess Marie of Orléans, Princess of Liechtenstein.

Education

As of 2018, the Duchess of Coimbra has been studying Social and Cultural Communication at the Catholic University of Portugal.

Investiture

On 4 July 2018, feast day of Saint Isabel of Portugal, Maria Francisca was invested as Duchess of Coimbra by her father, in a ceremony that took place in the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, in Coimbra, therefore succeeding to the title of her deceased uncle, Infante Henrique, Duke of Coimbra.
In the same ceremony, she was invested as a Dame of the Order of Saint Isabel, by her mother.
