Ika, Akwa Ibom


Ika is a Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The headquarters of the Ika local government area is Urua Inyang. Ika is subdivided into clans Urban, Ito Achan and Odoro and over 50 villages in totality with an identical cultural display called Akakum nicknamed Afum. Displayed mostly at Christmas.
Ika is one of the eight Annang local government areas of the present thirty-one local government areas in Akwa Ibom State. Ika local government area of Annang people Annang or Ika people were formerly in the old Abak which was subdivided into other local governments resulting in five new local government areas, namely Abak, Oruk-Anam, Etim-Ekpo, Ukanafun and Ika local government areas.
A few villages in Ika Local Government Area have historical and cultural affiliations to the Igbo people. Villages like Ikot Inyang has strong affiliations with the Igbo people.
The language of the Ika people of Akwa Ibom State is an Annang dialect of the Annang people.

Ikot udo, is one of the popular village in Ika. It is located in Achan ward 2 in Achan clan. It border with Abiaka, Abala both villages in Ngwa, Abia State and Ikot Otuko, Ikot Akpan Offiong, Ikot Inyang Udo, Nto Mfong, Affen Ikot okoro all villages within Ika in Akwa Ibom state. Ikot Udo is a home of notorious scholars and with much respect to it Culture and tradition. There are some rebel group that break out of Ikot Udo in 1954 seeking to be part of the present Abia State with the name of Akirika obu. However, Akirika is a community in Ukwa East Local government of Abia State that share no close border with any of the earlier mention villages or communities. Many great sons of Ikot Udo Such as Late Ime Ibagna, Late Obong Thompson Udokoro, Late Obong Jumbo Ukpongette, Sir Elijah Oyomette, Chief Sanuel Abia to mention but few, has try to broker peace and bring their rebellious brothers back, but effort prove abortive. The current village head of Ikot Udo is Obong John Jumbo Ukpongette.
