Ichirō Kōno


Ichirō Kōno was a Japanese politician representing a portion of Kanagawa prefecture. He joined first the now-defunct Liberal Party and then the Liberal Democratic Party. As a significant member of the latter, he served as a minister several times. He is also known the root of a political family tree that consists of his younger brother Kenzō Kōno, his second son Yōhei Kōno, and his grandson Tarō Kōno. He graduated in politics from Waseda University where was known as a competent athlete. Later he eventually served as President of the Japan Association of Athletics Federations.
