ICSA Match Racing National Championship


ICSA Team Racing National Championship is one of the six Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Championships. Between 1972 and 2009 it was the Sloop Championship, but changed name in 2010 when racing format of match racing was adopted.
Winners are awarded the Cornelius Shields Sr. Trophy.
It has a round robin format with five stages. In Stage One each team sails against each other once to determine a Gold fleet and a Repecharge fleet. The top six teams join the Gold fleet and the bottom four go to the Repecharge fleet. In Stage Two, the Gold fleet races each other once to determine seeds first through sixth. The Repecharge races each other once to determine seeds seventh through tenth. In Stage Three seventh and eighth from the Repecharge join first through sixth from the Gold round to compete in the Quarter Finals where first and eighth race each other, second and seventh face-off and so on. Stage Four is the semi-finals between the top four teams and then Stage Five is the petite finals and finals between the top teams from the semi-finals.
