History
Santa and Adam have known each other since childhood. and met the other two members in high school. These friendships grew into the birth of Hyphen in 2011. Hyphen means “link” in Greek; it was doubled up to underscore the band's desire to forge a strong relationship or bond between them and their audience that exceeds their expectations with every concert. Their debut EP, Chewbacca I'm Your Mother was released in March 2011. The 2nd EP, Wild Union, hit the record stores in 20124. Synthesisers were mainly featured on the second EP. Hyphen Hyphen has its roots in live performance; since its creation, the band have played at numerous music events. Hyphen Hyphen soon began scooping up a host of awards: The Jury prize at Les Inrocks Lab in 2011, along with several regional accolades such as the Ruche d'Imago records & production in Nice in 2010, the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in 2011 and the Printemps de Bourges 20124. The audience were treated to an unforgettable moment of television when Santa got on the table and sang with Beth Ditto, the famous lead singer of Gossip. The band had already played on this very stage for one of the first programmes of the season. 2016 was also a big year for festivals in Hyphen Hyphen's calendar: Le Rock, in all its forms, at Évreux on 25 June 2016, Les Vieilles Charrues festival in Carhaix on 16 July 2016, the Rock'n Poche Festival in Habère Poche on 29 July 2019, and the Poule des Champs in Aubérive on 9 September 2016. A few days later, they published details of a tour. Called HHTour, it would play more than 130 dates across France, as well as venues in Switzerland, Belgium and Germany.
