Hugh Webster


Hugh Webster is a former Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's 24th Senate district, including constituents in Alamance and Caswell counties. A farmer and accountant from Caswell County, North Carolina, Sen. Webster served five terms in the state Senate until he was narrowly defeated for re-election on November 7, 2006 by Tony Foriest.
In 2008, Webster challenged U.S. Rep. Brad Miller to represent North Carolina's 13th congressional district. Webster was defeated by Miller, with the incumbent winning nearly 66 percent of the district vote.
Webster was appointed Register of Deeds for Alamance County, North Carolina in 2011.

Personal life

Senator Webster and his wife Pat have two children, LeGrand and Noel. He and his wife currently reside in Burlington, North Carolina.

Education and Military

In 1961, Webster graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, North Carolina. He later went on to attend University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1965. Senator Webster went into the US Army where he served for two years.
