Hospitality Club

Hospitality Club is a social networking service accessible via a website used to arrange homestays and hospitality. The platform is a gift economy; hosts are not allowed to charge for lodging.

History

Hospitality Club was founded in July 2000 by 22-year old Veit Kühne with the help of friends and family. Kühne had been inspired by his experiences with homestays in Mensa International and his student social networks.
In January 2005, Kühne emailed members reiterating his control over decisions regarding the website.
In 2006, Kühne was working full-time on Hospitality Club.
In 2007, Google search volume for hospitalityclub.org started to decline and was overtaken by the search volume for the competitor couchsurfing.org.
