History

The founder Hitoshi Hatanaka, after having seen Tampopo was disappointed in the ramen he ate with his family in a restaurant, and decided to do something about it. He said he was going to make ramen for his family, and developed his own tonkotsu soup for ramen.
The first Ramen Santouka restaurant was established in Asahikawa on March 10, 1988, with only nine seats and with only one item on the menu, the shio ramen. It soon became known as "the ramen restaurant with the odd name and consistently full seats".
In 1994, Ramen Santouka opened its first store in Tokyo, starting its rapid expansion not just in Japan but in abroad.
In 1995 the "April Foods" corporation was started to increase the number of franchises.
