Heritage Property Act (Nova Scotia)
The Heritage Property Act )the Act) is a provincial statute which allows for the identification, protection and rehabilitation of cultural heritage properties in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada.
The Act offers five types of protection:
- Provincial Registry of Heritage Properties ;
- Provincial Cultural Landscape ;
- Municipal Registries of Heritage Properties ;
- Municipal Heritage Conservation Districts ; and
- Municipal Cultural Landscapes.
The Heritage Property Act was first enacted in 1980, and was subject to amendments in 1991, 1998 and 2010.
Nova Scotia also has related legislation to protect archaeological and natural sites and to protect burial plots and cemeteries.
