Harbor Freeway station


Harbor Freeway is a transport hub located on the Harbor Transitway, within the Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange of Interstates I-105 and I-110 near Figueroa Street in the neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The station serves the Metro C Line and the Metro J Line and other bus services. It is owned by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Station layout

The station has 3 levels: the upper level provides access to the Metro C Line ; the middle level has the connections to local bus services and the 253 space park and ride lot; the lower level provides access to the Metro J Line and other express buses operating on the Harbor Transitway. It is located near the Athens district of Los Angeles.

Station improvements

Harbor Transitway Park & Ride and transit station improvements. Enhance signage, lighting and security at Park & Ride lots were completed in June 2011. Install CCTV at Harbor Transitway stations by June 2012.

Services

C Line service hours are approximately from 5:00 AM until 12:45 AM daily. Metro Silver Line runs 24 hours a day.

- These buses stop at the same boarding platforms of the Metro Silver Line at the freeway level.

Non-Harbor Transitway buses stop on the west side of Figueroa Street.
On February 22, 2012 an incident occurred on the northbound Metro Silver Line platform during the afternoon. A vehicle struck the northbound platform of the Silver Line. The Metro Silver Line bus was not hit by the private truck when it was entering the station. There were 7 passengers who were about aboard the Silver Line bus to Downtown LA as a vehicle struck the platform. The 7 passengers received critical and serious injuries. It took around 2 hours to clear up the scene. During the incident, the Metro Silver Line, Metro Express Lines: 450X and 550 were detoured to stop at Figueroa Street/Harbor FWY station entrance. There has never been an incident on the Harbor Transitway ever since it first opened on June 1998. As a result of the incident, Metro's CEO: Art Leahy asked Metro's safety committee to review the station layout and signage of the Silver Line stations on the Harbor Transitway portion. A report was scheduled within 60 days after the incident. The report was complete during April 2012. Bollards were added during early August 2012 at the station. Bollards were also installed at the 37th Street/USC Metro Silver Line Station as well.
