Hampstead Parish, New Brunswick


Hampstead is a civil parish in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada.
For governance purposes it is divided between CFB Gagetown and the local service district of Hampstead; the Saint John River islands are not part of the local service district.

History

Hampstead Parish was established in 1786. It was named for Hempstead, Long Island, New York. New Brunswick's last surviving African Canadian community is in the parish, Elm Hill. Elm Hill was established in 1806. Until 1838, Hampstead included part of Petersville Parish.
