Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa (1872–1942)


Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa KCIE, CSI was the ruler of Bahrain from 1932 until his death in 1942. His title was Hakim of Bahrain.

Biography

Hamad was born on 6 February 1872, the second-born son of eight of Sheikh Isa ibn Ali Al Khalifa, and received a private education.
From 1920 until 1929 he was governor of the city of Manama and from 26 May 1923 was officially proclaimed Crown Prince.
On 9 December 1932 he succeeded his father on the throne of Bahrain and his appointment was made official on 9 February 1933.
He lived in the Al-Sakhir Palace from around 1925 until his death. He was very fond of the palace and lived there with his wife Hosha and regularly invited prominent noblemen and political figures from the United Kingdom and elsewhere to dine at the palace.
He died on 20 February 1942 in Rumaitha, Bahrain, and was buried in the mausoleum of al-Reef.
