History

Gustave Eiffel University was created by French government decree, and was founded on 1 January 2020. The University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée and the IFSTTAR national research institute are fully fused into the new university; whereas three engineering schools, ESIEE Paris, the École des ingénieurs de la Ville de Paris, and the École nationale des sciences géographiques ; along with the École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est; join the new university while each retaining its separate legal status. The fusion was decided upon despite the formal opposition of unions representing UPEM workers.
