Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation


The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is the chief governing body of Visakhapatnam city. Its jurisdiction encompasses an area of. It is also part of the planning body of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority. G. Srijana is the present municipal commissioner of the city.

History

Visakhapatnam is one of the earliest municipality in the region. It was setup as a municipality in 1858 later upgraded as corporation in 1979. On 21 November 2005 Government of Andhra Pradesh has released a GO to create a Greater Municipal Corporation and it was first Greater municipal corporation in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Anakapalli and the Bheemili municipalities were incorporated.
