Government of Oklahoma City

The City of Oklahoma City has operated under a council-manager form of city government since 1927. A mayor and eight-member council are elected to set policy and appoint a city manager who carries out the day-to-day operations. City administrative staff and elected officials have offices at the historic city hall located on the western edge of the central business district in downtown Oklahoma City.

City Council

The City Council of Oklahoma City is non-partisan and its nine members are elected to four-year terms. Oklahoma City is divided into eight wards, and voters in each ward elect a Council member to represent that ward. The Mayor is the voting member who is elected by all voters of the city, and is the Chief Executive of the City and President of the Council.
