Godfrey Davies


Godfrey Davies, FBA was a respected English historian of the 17th century. The son of Sir Thomas Davies, he was born in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and was educated at Chipping Campden Grammar School and was elected to a Townsend Scholarship at Pembroke College, Oxford in 1910. His most widely used works today are his contribution to the Oxford History of England on The Early Stuarts and his Bibliography of the Seventeenth Century. He lived the latter part of his life in San Marino, California, where he was a librarian at the Huntingdon Library and was elected a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy in 1955.
