Giorgio Bàrberi Squarotti


Giorgio Bàrberi Squarotti was an Italian academic and poet.

Biography

Giorgio Squarotti was born in 1929 in Turin. He taught Italian literature at the University of Turin from 1967 until his death in 2017. He was one of the most important Italian literary critics. He was known for his detailed studies on classical Italian authors such Dante, Machiavelli, Tasso, Manzoni, Verga and Gozzano, in addition to an interest in contemporary writers. He was director of the historical "Grande dizionario della lingua italiana" UTET, with which he also directed the "Storia della civiltà letteraria italiana" in six parts.
