Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006


Germany was represented by Texas Lightning in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 contest with the song "No No Never".
Texas Lightning is a quintet that describes itself as hip and old fashioned. The group consists of Olli Dittrich, Jon Flemming Olsen, Markus Schmidt, Uwe Frenzel, and Jane Comerford. They have remade songs by country singers such as Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, but have also recorded hit songs such as "Highway To Hell" and "Like A Virgin" with a country twist. They also recently covered "Waterloo", ABBA's 1974 Eurovision hit.

Germany’s selection for the 2006 contest was held on 9 March 2006, with only three performers and songs as part of a special show celebrating 50 years of Eurovision. Singer/comedian Olli Dittrich with his country/pop band Texas Lightning beat former Modern Talking singer Thomas Anders and 1972 Eurovision winner Vicky Leandros to represent Germany at Eurovision, winning the selection with a total of 365,361 televotes. They represented Germany with the song "No No Never". The song was written and composed by Jane Comerford, lead vocalist of the band.

At Eurovision

Germany finished 14th with 36 points at Eurovision, having automatically gained a place in the final as one of the four largest donors to the European Broadcasting Union.
