George Wheatcroft (chess player)


George Shorrock Ashcombe Wheatcroft was an English chess master and chess functionary.

Biography

In 1935, George Wheatcroft won British Correspondence chess championship. He participated in international chess tournaments in Plymouth and Margate. From 1953 to 1956 George Wheatcroft was President of British Chess Federation.
George Wheatcroft played for England in the Chess Olympiad:
George Wheatcroft was lawyer by profession. He graduated from New College in University of Oxford. From 1959 to 1968 he was professor on English law.
His son was Timothy Martin Wheatcroft – chess player, participant of British Chess Championship in 1963.
