George Ffitch


George Ffitch was a British newsreader, television presenter, radio personality and journalist. Ffitch presented programs such as This Week and News at Ten.

Biography

Early life

Ffitch was born in London and was educated in state schools. He was a graduate of the London School of Economics. Ffitch was selected to take part in a Russian language course while he was serving in the Army and retained the use of the Russian language.

Career

Ffitch covered the South Lewisham and Carmarthen by-elections in 1957 for ITN. In 1962, Ffitch joined ITV on the current affairs programme, This Week. In 1967, Ffitch was one of four newscasters for the News at Ten alongside Alastair Burnet, Andrew Gardner and Reginald Bosanquet. In the same year, he left ITN to work at The Economist as their political editor and assistant editor. He joined the Daily Express in 1974 and remained there until 1976. He was also the managing director of LBC until 1985 because of ill health and was known as an effective leader who was devoted to his colleagues.

Personal life

He married Pamela Lyle in 1958 and they had two children; a daughter and a son.
