Geneviève Zubrzycki is a professor of sociology at the University of Michigan and director of the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia.

Her book The Crosses of Auschwitz: Nationalism and Religion in Post-Communist Poland earned her several awards, including the "AAASS and Orbis Books Outstanding Book Award in Polish Studies", American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies ; "Distinguished Book Award", Sociology of Religion Section, American Sociological Association ; and "Biennial Kulczycki Book Prize", Polish Studies Association. The book studies national identity and Catholicism in Poland after the fall of Communism via an examination of memory wars between Poles and Jews, and the international conflict over the presence of Christian symbols at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
