Fred Myrow


Fredric Myrow was an American composer. He is known for composing the soundtracks for Phantasm, Soylent Green and Scarecrow.

Biography

Myrow was the son of Josef Myrow and grandson of Irving Mills. In 1969 he married actress Elana Eden. They had 3 children together and remained married to his death in 1999 at age 59.

Career

Myrow was a friend of Jim Morrison and provided the music for Morrison's experimental film.
Myrow co-wrote the score for the film Phantasm in 1979. In 2015, the soundtrack was re-released on vinyl.
Myrow was also a pianist, and performed live concerts of his compositions.
The American pianist Brad Mehldau dedicated a song in his solo piano suite Elegiac Cycle to Myrow, entitled "Goodbye Storyteller ". Myrow had died two weeks before Mehldau's recording.
