Presentation

CDC distributes its weekly surveillance report via two websites, FluView and FluView Interactive. While FluView is a static report, FluView Interactive allows the user to see more detail such as geographic breakdowns, seasonal variations, etc. FluView's platform uses a range of maps to represent the extent and severity of influenza outbreaks, at the state and national level. It complements with a range of podcasts and videos, with the purpose to educate users about the impact and dangers of influenza.

Management

FluView is maintained and used by the CDC to determine, for example, the quantitative level of influenza among the U.S. regions. The Epidemiology and Prevention Branch in the Influenza Division at CDC collects, compiles and analizes data from a range of sources. Estimated geographic spread of flu activity are reported by State health departments each week and the level of flu activity is categorized as being widespread, regional, local, sporadic, or no activity. A series of tables and charts display the summarized data, which can be downloaded by users in a PowerPoint version of select surveillance summaries.
