Festival Winds


The Festival Winds is a Canadian Harmonie ensemble. The group appears regularly at the Festival of the Sound, a summer music festival based in the resort town of Parry Sound, Ontario. The ensemble has been a part of the festival since 1988.
The group specialises in the performance of Harmoniemusik, a historical genre written for the small wind ensemble called the Harmonie. The Festival Winds made the first recording of the first editions of Harmoniemusik the Harmoniemusik of K.V. Anhang C, works attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The members of The Festival Winds play in various orchestras: the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Boston Symphony and Symphony Nova Scotia. In addition, the members teach at music schools including the New England Conservatory of Music, the University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Western Ontario, the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
