Fakhoury

Fakhoury or variant Fakhouri or variants Al-Fakhoury, Al-Fakhouri, El-Fakhoury, or El-Fakhouri is an Arabic surname originating in Lebanon, with many people bearing the name being Palestinian or Jordanian.
Some of the Catholic families originally migrated from Russia, then to Albania after settlement in Lebanon in the 1870s.
The root of the surname Fakhoury isn't entirely clear but likely comes from the Arabic root word ‘fakhour’ meaning ‘proud’. Many of the Fakhoury families can trace the roots to the Lebanese city of Rachaya Al Foukhar. Though spelled different, the name also could be a nisbah, referring to family origins; al-Fakhour and the suffix y/i, an Arabic suffix to show relation, occurring in nearly all nisbahs.
The first Fakhoury ancestors lived in the small village of Rachaya Al Foukhar in the mountains of Lebanon. Over time many left and some went to Deir El Qamar, and some to Saida where they were granted the title of beyk for their power toward the reign. They also lived in Jordan near Amman with some later spreading to Syria, Palestine, or west to the United States, most commonly migrating to Michigan, New York, California, and Chicago.A large amount also migrated to Sydney, Australia, Mexico City, Mexico and Sao Paolo, Brazil.
