Eva Kaili


Eva Kaili is a member of the European Parliament, representing the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, and a former television news presenter.

Life

Eva's father, Alexandros Kailis, is an Istanbul-born mechanical and electrical engineer. Her mother, Maria Ignatiadou, of Asia Minor Greek descent, grew up in Imathia. Eva has a younger sister, Mantalena, who is a lawyer.

Education and Early career

Eva went to school and high school at the 1st Lyceum. She studied in the Polytechnic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to be an Architect Engineer. Her Master of Arts in University of Piraeus, is on International and European Studies. She is a cPhD of Political Economy on Practical responses to Crisis. She did a Principal economics course of Harvard and studied at the Greek School of Journalism.
Before her political career, Eva was a known newscaster at the most influential TV channel of Greece 2004-2007.
She was a consultant on Communication Strategy and Public and Foreign Affairs of Greek Pharmaceutical companies and one of the biggest Media Groups 2012-2014.

Political career

In 1992 Eva joined the socialist Panhellenic Camp of Militant Students and the PASOK Youth. In 2001 she was President of the School of Architecture Students’ Association and by 2002 she was already the youngest member to be elected in the Thessaloniki City Council. She is also actively involved with Love146, an international organisation against child slavery and exploitation and a member of the Panagia Soumela foundation.

Member of the Hellenic Parliament

In the 2007 national elections she was elected as a member of the Hellenic Parliament for the first district of Thessaloniki. She was the youngest Member of Parliament with the PASOK party, while in 2004 national elections she once again was the youngest candidate standing. She retained her seat in the 2009 national elections.
During her term in Parliament, Eva has served as a member of the following Parliamentary Committees: Standing Committee on Cultural and Educational Affairs, Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs and Special Permanent Committee of Greeks Abroad. She is also a member of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean. She has represented Greece in conferences and special missions abroad.

Eva Kaili is a Greek politician and Member of the European Parliament for 2014-2019. She is a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in Europe. She is mostly known internationally, as Founder of the Future Forum in Brussels and Chair of the Future of Science and Technology Panel of the European Parliament, leading Exponential Technologies.
She was one of the “Women who Shape Brussels” and the “Tech MEPs gang” as the “leading MEPs addressing the digital revolution” by Politico in 2018.
She received the European Award as an MEP in 2018 for her work on the Digital Agenda for Europe. When she was on the shortlist as one of the Best MEPs in 2016, Der Spiegel called her one of the best representatives of European citizens
Business Insider called her “The most popular Greek politician in the world” with an “extremely impressive story” and next year too, as “an up and coming politician with strong support among the youth” in 2012
Der Spiegel also referred to her as a “Foresightful politician” and “brave” for her stance during the economic and political crisis of Greece, including her in its list of “People of the Year 2011”
As one of the Digital Leaders for Europe by the World Economic Forum of Davos and the Blockchain Council, she was one of the speakers in China at the Informal Group of World Economic Leaders by WEF in 2018.
She is a member of the Global Council on Extended Intelligence of IEEE Standards Association and MIT Media Lab. CXI was created to design systems that integrate humans and machines prioritizing ideals, people and the planet over profit and productivity for a Good Future
Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, accepted her request of transforming the Science and Technology Options Assessment #STOA the Scientific Foresight Unit and the European Science Media Hub, to Future of Science and Technology Panel to monitor Exponential Science and Technologies, to provide Scientific Data to MEPs, to Communicate Science to European Citizens with workshops, studies and campaigns. She is the first woman Chairing Science and Technology in the EP
