Erry Yulian Triblas Adesta


Erry Yulian Triblas Adesta, is an Indonesian academic and a Professor at International Islamic University Malaysia. He is an Immediate Past Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in 2019 and was the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate & Research at the Faculty of Engineering, IIUM. In Indonesia, he has been active as an Assessor for National Accreditation Council since 2003, and Reviewer for Competitive Funding Program - Indonesian Higher Education Council since 2006. His notable area of expertise involves manufacturing engineering, manufacturing cost, supply chain management, project management, and value engineering.

Early life and marriage

Erry was born in Palembang, Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia on July 13, 1962. He is the first son, with seven siblings, from Edward Jarjis bin Sutan Malihan and Roslaini binti Anwar Hamzah. His father was a teacher at the vocational school of Sekolah Teknik Menengah Negeri 2 Palembang, and his mother was a nurse at the hospital of PT Stanvac Indonesia at Sungai Gerong, Sumatera Selatan. He completed his high-school education at Sekolah Menengah Atas Xaverius I at Palembang by 1981. He later enrolled to Mechanical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Sriwijaya University, before he later left the program after the first year of the enrollment itself.
Erry married Tritayana binti M. Yasin on 1987 while he was pursuing his study at Huddersfield, UK. He has three sons, all of whom were born in UK: Dr. Fajar Englando Alan Adesta, a Postgraduate Student in internal medicine at Universitas Indonesia; Fadhli Zil Ikram Adesta, BSc , a pharmacist at Specialist Compounding Pharmacy Singapore; and Fayez Ghazi Mutasim Adesta, a law undergraduate student at International Islamic University Malaysia.

Education

Erry's higher-education life began as a student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Sriwijaya University on 1982, in which later he moved to Polytechnic University of Sriwijaya on the second year of his campus life. He was later graduated as Diploma 3 Profesional Ahli Madya in Mechanical Engineering from the later institution.
Erry pursued his further study to United Kingdom on 1985, under full scholarship from the World Bank 2nd Polytechnic Education Development Project provided by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. He enrolled for BEng in Mechanical and Production Engineering at the Polytechnic of Huddersfield at West Yorkshire, England. He later completed his master's degree in Integrated Manufacturing Systems under the full scholarship from Foreign & Commonwealth Office on 1991 at the University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. His last education for PhD in Manufacturing Systems Engineering on 1998 was conducted under the full scholarship from the Engineering Education Development Project from the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia at the University of Huddersfield. Keeping the link with the institution, he was noted to attend the Huddersfield alumni reunion at Ritz Carlton Hotel at Kuala Lumpur in 2014.

Academic Life and Career

Erry's academic life started back in 1985 when he was a Master Teacher at PEDC-ITB. He left the academic world for about two years to work at Indonesian Aerospace Company, which formerly known as PT Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara. He joined back the academic life after he completed his master's degree, just when he found his passion for teaching and managing academic institution until today.
Erry was nominated in the elections for rector as a rector candidate at Tarumanagara University in 2007, an institution that considered to be the largest and prestigious private university in Indonesia by many. He did not proceed to the position, but later he found himself again active to challenge the position of rector for University of Indonesia as a rector candidate in 2014.
Erry is currently residing at Malaysia and active as a lecturer at International Islamic University Malaysia, Malaysia, and Gunadarma University, Indonesia.

Career

Erry became the member of International Islamic University Malaysia since June 2007. He holds the academic position at the Department of Manufacturing & Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, IIUM. He was later promoted to Full Professor in 2011.
In June 2008, he was assigned as the Head of Department of Manufacturing & Materials Engineering position, where he completed it by June 2012. During the time, he managed to establish collaborations with industries and educational establishments. Among them are Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd, Twistcode Technologies Sdn Bhd, and Auto Research and Development Sdn Bhd.
An immediate administrative position was followed in July 2012, as the Deputy Dean for Postgraduate & Research at the Faculty of Engineering, whereby he completed it on December 2016. The assignment narrowed to the strategic planning, academic program development, financial and academic planning, resource management, program development and problem solving on postgraduate and research affairs at the faculty level. He managed to increase the number of postgraduate students from about 300 to more than 500 students within the first year of his appointment. He also honored many visits from various academies and universities that may lead to the possibility of future partnerships between the two institutions, e.g. the working visit of Universitas Islam Batik Surakarta on May 2016 for seeking the possibilities of mutual partnership in teaching and research activities.
Erry left the Deputy Dean position in the late of 2016 and was assigned a new task as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering by January 2017. A duty entrusted to him that he holds until today.
Erry has a strong dedication when it comes to teaching, research, and academic management. During his duty as the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate & Research in 2015, he has been initiating and executing some projects, primarily with some Gulf Countries i.e. Kuwait, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Libya. He had graduated as many as 41 postgraduate students from the three countries. He was assigned by his superior to increase the number of international Postgraduate Students, he then managed to recruit 28 PhD students and 22 Master students from 1 country alone.
He is still active as the Chairman for Agile and Sustainable Manufacturing Research Unit, at the Department of Manufacturing & Materials Engineering. Through his supervision, several awards have been achieved with his team, such as winner of Bronze Medal for Research/Invention at IIUM Research, Invention and Innovation Exhibition 2011 for two topics in high-speed machining.

Other activities

Together with his colleagues, Dr Afzeri, Dr Ari Legowo, Dr Rifki Muhida, Dr Riza Muhida, Dr Ahmad Unggul Priantoro and Dr Talib Hassan Hashim, they initiated the making of Indonesian Lecturer and Researcher Association in Malaysia. An organization for all Indonesian lecturers and researchers to affiliate and build network. There has been more than 300 members registered on the database of ILRAM, and the association itself released a journal named International Journal of Science Engineering and Technology.
Erry was also noted to be active giving some visiting lectures at some events and universities in Indonesia. The themes were mostly Education in general, where one of it was a visit to Sultan Agung Islamic University, Indonesia, where he delivered his speech on the significant changes in education to embrace the ASEAN Economic Community and integration in 2015. Others are related to his expertise, such as the invitation as a keynote speaker on the International Conference on Green Development organized by University of Jambi on October 2016.
