Edward Gargan


Edward Gargan was an American film and television actor, one of the most prolific bit players in the history of film.

Career

He was born of Irish parents in Brooklyn, New York. He was the elder brother of actor William Gargan, whose birthday July 17 he shared.
As soon as he had left college, he went onto the stage and had extensive acting experience gained in plays like My Maryland, Rose Marie, and Good News before going into films. His Broadway credits include Face the Music, Polly of Hollywood and Black Boy.
Many of his appearances were uncredited. The Internet Movie Database lists 293 feature films to his credit over a three-decade span between 1921 and 1952 and television work from 1951 to 1953.

Death

Gargan died February 19, 1964, at Columbus Hospital in New York City. He was 62. He was survived by his wife, Catherine Conlan Gargan, and his brother.
