Edward B. Lawson


Edward Burnett Lawson was a US Ambassador to Israel and Iceland. He was a World War I veteran.

Biography

Lawson was born on September 26, 1895 in Newport, Tennessee. He graduated from Georgetown University with a BS in foreign service and later MS. He fought in World War I and later joined the US State Department.

Diplomatic career

After many posts such as Economic Counselor, Ankara, Turkey, Commercial Attache, Managua, Nicaragua, Commercial Attache, Prague, Czechoslovakia, Trade Commissioner, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, he served as ambassador to Iceland and the newly formed state of Israel. He was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Personnel in 1959–60.
He was married to Jean McDonald Lawson and died of heart failure on November 19, 1962.
