Edmund Janniger


Edmund Janniger is a Polish political analyst who briefly served as Advisor to the Minister of National Defence of Poland in 2015. He holds the record for being the youngest ministerial advisor in Poland’s history.

Biography

A child of university professors Robert A. Schwartz and Camila Krysicka, Janniger coauthored six academic papers along with his father. He initially wanted to become a physician, but later decided to engage in politics.
Prior to nomination, Janniger worked with Antoni Macierewicz for around three years, including as his as legislative assistant and Deputy Chief of Staff. During the 2015 Polish parliamentary election, Janniger served as the Deputy Campaign Manager for Law and Justice in the 10th Electoral District.
On 24 November 2015, Janniger was appointed as Advisor to the Minister of National Defence, Antoni Macierewicz. His responsibilities included managing the Minister's online presence. The appointment of the 20-year-old to the post met with support of the media sympathetic to the newly elected government and with criticism from the opposition. His controversial designation became a subject of Polish internet memes.
He held the post for two weeks, until 8 December 2015, when he returned to the US. Janniger then founded a New York City-based membership organization and think tank, Institute of Global Affairs.
